I've been reading quite a bit of King lately - I had never really read much before - and there are things he does that I really like - sense of place and character sketches - and things he does I really don't like - he frequently feels the need to have a completely disgusting character, not scary, just gross.

I think when he pushes the gross meter he is pandering to a genre, what he thinks people expect of him. Or maybe he just wants to gross people out. He really seems happiest, and his writing his best, when he is just having people talk to each other, just "being" in an interesting, even scary, place.

At least that's what I've been thinking about him lately. I've got a bunch of other books to read, but I'm sure i'll try some more King soon. Any recommendations?xoxoxohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11993751439653647136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808487949051617772.post-26157315144561253522012-02-07T15:48:40.202-05:002012-02-07T15:48:40.202-05:00That is one thing I'd agree with you on in alm...That is one thing I'd agree with you on in almost every King novel I've read -- he needs an editor. The core of his later books is good, but the narrative sprawls and sprawls, which if nothing else lessens the tension. Good review of It, a book I haven't read; thank you!--MarioJJMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13404985455733545060noreply@blogger.com
