hot sands, cool kite

There was actually a warning at the beach yesterday: HOT SAND. And the lifeguard wasn't kidding. Even at 4:30pm I had to put my flip flops back on to walk across the sand to take this photo of the kid flying her kite.

We didn't stay out too long, because it was so hot and hard for her to see where the kite was, but I think she still had a good time trying out her new kite. We'll be back again, I'm sure, for another try tomorrow, but maybe a bit later in the day.

waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite . . .

. . . Or waiting around for Friday night or waiting perhaps for their Uncle Jake or a pot to boil or a better break or a string of pearls or a pair of pants or a wig with curls or another chance. Everyone is just waiting.—Dr. Seuss
Not incredibly windy at the Smithsonian Kite Festival today, but it was sunny and beautiful, with cherry blossoms and just about everything else blooming—a great day to go fly a kite . . .
