winter wonderland (sorta)

People in Buffalo have been inundated with the white stuff and my heart goes out to them. I remember snow. The spring before we moved down here to Florida we were hit in D.C. with three consecutive blizzards. I can't say I miss it, but last week I had to take the kid to our local "snowfall," and she was thrilled to see the white flakes.

remember that scene in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers?

You know, the one with the avalanche? Well, we live in a swamp, so an avalanche isn't likely, but another ton of snow is on its way, and with the government shutting down a second day in a row and tomorrow looking iffy at best, it sort of feels like being snowed-in in a remote cabin in the woods.

Too bad Howard Keel & Co. aren't around to spice it up a bit, as I don't think I can watch Shrek the Halls one more time. Tonight I am looking forward to being stuck on that wacky Lost island more than usual, as a change of scenery is sorely needed.

The avalanche happens around 5:33.

snowmagedden

Will our car be able to get out of here before March?

Government closed tomorrow (!) so one more snow day.

déjà snow

This energizer snow just keeps going and going and going . . . and here we go again.

I've been feeling very Little House on the Prairie this weekend.

Yesterday we stayed home, waiting for the snow bomb to drop, which started at about 11am. I had just moved my car from where it was parked quite a few blocks away to a more visible spot across the street, where I could see it get buried. And it has. I moved the horse into the barn.

I did the laundry, sorted clothes in my daughter's room. I chopped the wood and did my chores, Pa.

I baked johnny cake for dinner, served with pears. I started a knitting project after dinner. Let's huddle by the fire until this winter is over.

can you believe it . . . more snow

But luckily it's very sunny, so the meltdown is in progress. In the meantime, great fun was had until it got too cold and then screams to get back inside were heard . . .

the last of the snow . . .

It's almost all gone . . .. . . but more snow is on the forecast for the end of the week.

Just say no, snow.

snow, snow, snow, snow . . .snow!

Seems perfect for the blizzard of 2009.

White Christmas is one of my favorite holiday movies. It's corny in parts, And has the classic girl misunderstands boy plot that drives me nuts. But it has some wonderful numbers, courtesy of Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen. My favorite is "Snow." I love how they make the winter scene out of two napkins as they wait for their "snow" cocktails.
