Favorite movies that have had an impact on me - #4 - The Stepford Wives (1975): This great movie hits so many notes - psychological thriller, science fiction, social and political commentary, drama, comedy - and it is, sadly, prescient. What society wants women to be ... in the movie it comes from an evil "men's society," but today it is more insidious and widespread. It comes from without and within. Katherine Ross, Paula Prentiss, James Coburn, etc. are all excellent. The original novel by Ira Levin is worth a read, too.

Favorite movies that have had an impact on me - #3 - Rear Window (1954): I love all of Alfred Hitchcock's films, but this is probably my favorite. There is so much here. Great acting by Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly and Thelma Ritter. A suspenseful murder mystery. Amazing set design. But what really makes the movie great is the exploration of voyeurism, an activity that is at the very core of viewing movies.
Favorite movies that have had an impact on me - #2 - All the President’s Men (1976): This movie, even when you know the outcome, either from history or previous viewing, is still a tension-packed, at times nail-biting mystery. I’ve always loved Robert Redford, and he works well here with Dustin Hoffman, Jason Robards, Hal Holbrook, etc. This film should be required (re)viewing, as its depiction of large and small crimes perpetrated by members of our government sounds eerily familiar. “These are not very bright guys” and “Follow the money.”
Favorite movies that have had an impact on me - #1 Some Like It Hot (1959): This movie never fails to make me laugh. The snappy dialogue, the cross-dressing, MM’s radiance, all mixed together in a period gangster farce that just won’t quit. Maybe nobody’s perfect, but this movie sure is.
