happy veterans day
Today I remember and honor my dad and his service in the Coast Guard during WWII.
Today is the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, which marks the anniversary of the end of World War I, which was formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
I also remember that today was my parents' wedding anniversary.
Here are some screen captures of them from an old 8mm film that was taken during their honeymoon in Nassau.

veterans and anniversaries
Many members of my family have served and protected their country and for this I am extremely grateful. Armistice Day, or Veterans Day, as we now refer to it, was first proclaimed a national holiday on November 11 1919, by President Woodrow Wilson. I searched our family flickr archives and found some photos of family members who served in wars post-World War I. These are not the only relatives who have served their country, just the ones I am lucky enough to have a photo of them in uniform.
November 11 will also always signal another special day for me. It is aso my parents' anniversary.

11.11.11
Happy Veterans Day to all the men and women who serve and have served, and their families, as well. Many people in my family have served in many wars. Luckily, we actually have some photos of relatives and ancestors in their uniforms, going as far back as the Civil War. As proud as I am of them, I'm hoping for no more wars for future generations.
November 11 was also my parents' wedding anniversary. Here they are at their reception at the Gotham Hotel, NYC (which is no more.)

11.11.11 has also been declared Nigel Tufnel Day. You really shouldn't have to ask, but just in case:
