playing soldier

Another treasure from the vault. My great-grandfather Edwin Henry Cassels, as a boy, dressed up as if he was ready to play soldiers.

  Edwin H. Cassels

His father, William Beverige Cassels, was actually in the Civil War. He enlisted as a musician on September 1, 1864 in Company K, 43rd Infantry Regiment, Wisconsin. The family story is that he was a drummer boy, although he was 23 at the time he enlisted.
