I think these days we are so concerned with being free and comfortable. It's great to have an anything goes attitude, but with 1,000s of style to choose from, then there's sort of no style. At least that's my guess. there was a certain way to look back then - make-up, powder, heels, hair. You ended up looking more polished, with less choices. They also wanted to look feminine. I think modern women are afraid to look too feminine, as if they might lose their power somehow.

Why does everything from that period seem so stylish? Maybe people had more time to be glamorous.
